APPLICATION GUIDANCE

Maxyield for Sorghum

Sow directly into a prepared seedbed. Apply Maxyield with the basal fertiliser near the row at planting, then with top dressing during active vegetative growth, approximately V3–V5 or 24–35 days after planting. Apply with adequate soil moisture and avoid concentrated contact with seed.

The calculator follows the version 2 protocol supplied by Jens: 10 kg/ha at planting and 10 kg/ha at top dressing, totalling 20 kg/ha per crop cycle. Rates are per hectare, not per acre. Integrate with soil-test-based crop nutrition and soil correction.

KNOW YOUR SOIL

Soil pH & crop suitability

pH is a guide, not a yield prediction. These ranges need local soil-test interpretation; unlisted values are not automatically safe.

pH 6.0–6.5
Preferred range

Best pH conditions for this crop; no yield percentage is promised.

pH 5.5–5.9
Near the preferred range

Usually a lower pH risk; test nutrients and monitor the crop.

pH 5.0–5.4
Below the preferred range

Increasing risk of reduced growth or yield; investigate soil acidity and nutrition.

pH Below 5.0
Strongly outside the range

Higher risk of root or nutrient limitations; seek a soil-test-based correction plan.

pH Above 7.5
Above the preferred range

Check for nutrient limitations, particularly micronutrients.

Illustrative trial context

Illustrative measured trial: a Kansas grain-sorghum series cited in the Maxyield protocol reported relative yields of 84.4% at pH 5.2, 90.5% at pH 5.5, 97.0% at pH 6.3 and 100% at pH 6.7. These observations are not predictions for an individual Kenyan field.

Maxyield is a soil conditioner. It does not replace fertiliser or a soil-test-based liming programme. Nursery media rates are separate from field rates.

About the crop photographs

Crop photographs help identify each crop. Reference images are illustrative and do not show Maxyield treatment results.
