APPLICATION GUIDANCE

Maxyield for Potatoes

Potatoes are planted from seed tubers, not nursery transplants. Apply 10 kg/acre (about 25 kg/ha) in the planting furrow with the standard basal programme, then 10 kg/acre at the first top dressing, normally 4–6 weeks after emergence and around earthing up. Total: 20 kg/acre.

The proposed HRI/KALRO trial uses this two-application programme. Potato scab risk and soil type should be considered before raising pH.

Soil pH & crop suitability

pH is a guide, not a yield prediction. These ranges need local soil-test interpretation; unlisted values are not automatically safe.

pH 5.5–6.5
Preferred range

Best pH conditions for this crop; no yield percentage is promised.

pH 5.0–5.4
Near the preferred range

Usually a lower pH risk; test nutrients and monitor the crop.

pH Below 5.0
Below the preferred range

Increasing risk of reduced growth or yield; investigate soil acidity and nutrition.

pH Above 6.5
Above the preferred range

Check for nutrient limitations, particularly micronutrients.

Maxyield is a soil conditioner. It does not replace fertiliser or a soil-test-based liming programme. Nursery media rates are separate from field rates.
